We went from

museums and art galleries; KGBEATS have been in aural pleasure
delivery business for just over a decade and to celebrate we
have invited a few of our friends to help us put together a
crazy show! And a crazy show it was: 2 sound systems , featuring
some of the best

6. What type of
talent do you gear to showcase?
We are always trying to promote the local artists that are
within our format. More underground dance styles of up-tempo
music house, progressive, techno. I don’t try to stick us with any
one type of dj. I try to get the best talent that I can. We have
been working at a club called Bigwig for a while which is a
smaller setting. It’s a Thursday night that we do.7. Why do you
think euro and hard house are so damn popular in this city?
Euro is as close to mainstream or radio friendly as dance music
can get, it has a lot of vocals to it , its got a pop process of
how they put their songs together. Euro has a really friendly
appeal, people of all ages can get into it. It is very easy to
latch on to. Hard house is a bit different, it’s a lowest common
denominator of music, its got all the things of dance music that
are easiest to latch on to. This style is easily listen-able and
easily sellable because its identifiable. And that has a lot to
do with success of hard house.8. Who are your
favorite dj’s ?
Danny Tenaglia , Carl Cox, Danny Howells, Darren Emerson, Dan Fx,
Lovebone and Lotta, Nosmo, other localsound residents, Derrick
Carter, Cajmere, Lady d, Terry Bristol , Psychobitch, Lego, John
Curley, Mark Grant.9. What
producers do you like right now?
A label called whole nine yards, very impressed with this label.
16b’s stuff, layo & bushwacka.
10. Are
you spending any time in the studio or have any productions
forthcoming?
Im one of the few dj’s I think in the world that really doesn’t
care about producing. I've always felt that to be the best dj
that I could be that I had to focus on dj’ing. And having worked
at rec labels and having worked with other producers and
remixers, ive noticed that when you spend more time in the
studio than you do on dj’ing, it takes away time from dj’ing,
your skills start to erode. So I don’t think that you can have
it both ways unless you're really driven to give both aspects
same effort and time.
11. What do you
see yourself doing in 5 years?
Probably doing the same thing I am doing right now. I'm just
happy the way things are going right now. There are many doors
that open up to you while you're a dj, that if you're a creative
person you can really find a way to pursue your creativeness in
many different avenues, I don’t have any set goals in mind, im
just gonna see what doors open up and go through them
|
|
1.What did you do 5 years
ago?
I've been involved for 14 yrs, 5 yrs ago I was the music editor
of 1000 words magazine, I was playing @ 950 and Dome Room and
Karma was just about to open up.
2. What are your music
influences?
I've been a huge music fanatic since I was very young. My whole
family was into music. Growing up I listened to lots of disco ,
rock and roll, industrial, heavy metal, new wave. Pretty much
everything.
3. How would you
characterize your dj’ing style?
Experience and versatility, having such a varied background in
music allowed me to listen to all sorts of music and understand
all sorts of music. Listening to everything allows me to play
everything, I think that’s what really sets me apart from
people. I am not just a house or techno dj or any 1 type of dj.
I can play any style with anybody in any situation.
4. How
would you consider the scene in Chicago?
Scene has been as strong as ever. There are more nightclubs and
djs than ever before. In those terms the scene is very strong.
5. How
did you get affiliated with localsound?
Localsound guys have been promoting rock bands for a couple of
years, and made move into nightclub industry and came to club
that I was working at to hire someone else, they saw me play and
decided to hire me instead. I’ve been a resident and talent
buyer for them for more than a year now. |

01/31/2003 KGBEATS drove MODA in
the off-da-hook MODe!
with
DJ SOKOLOV Miss Red, Rita Sky & Misavee (Corporalis
Coutoure ) |
|
You had to see it to believe it: Moda was
packed and jamming to the club sounds of KGBEATS and djSokolov
of Ukraine. Models made everyone wishing for their cameras and
the music, - it made you wish you whore your dance shoes! Each of us
dj's that night got a to play a set of favorites, with a special
bonus tag-team happy hour by Lovebone and Lotta, - as we stopped
playing, crowd was still chanting for more and nobody wanted
to go home! Amazing!
Perhaps the biggest highlight of the night
musically was a bootleg of the Yeke Yeke, which took old-skoolers
back to like 10 years ago; a ABS by KGBEATS/8MI and new Underworld
record , mixed in by djSokolov at the beginning of the body painting
show.
Thank you all for your support and
enthusiasm, and we promise to invite you back to Moda for more
of this mind blowers! Special thanks goes to Miss Red,
Rita Sky, Missavee, Boris, Max, ChichkaN1, RuMisha, Roman, Tim and
Moda staff, all dancers and models & You without whom this all would
be impossible! |

01/11/2003 KGBEATS hosted PAOLO MOJO @ZENTRA |
|
DJs who approach their role from an artistic
perspective begin to shine through. Paolo Mojo is one of those DJs.
Never happy to just play a record when he can turn it inside out and
work it till it bleeds, his creative, effects-laden style of modern
house is causing a ruckus across the world. Never happy to
just play a record when he can turn it inside out and work it till
it bleeds, his creative, effects-laden style of modern house is

competition winner, with shows on Kiss100 and Groovetech, resident
at Bedrock and Gatecrasher, hailed by Danny Tenaglia, Digweed,

On the Personal note it was a delight to have Paolo here in Chicago

KGBEATS DOES
 |
|
People that follow us for quite a while know that it is a rear treat
to catch us playing one our down tempo-abstract-jazz set. Chicago's
world famous Museum Of Contemporary Art invited KGBEATS to
play one of their member events. Setting up on the balcony of the
the second floor we were the one and only sound for the night,
gently taking advantage of the MCA's unique acoustics. Getting
quite high on feeling and quite drunk on free drinks (generously
provided by the museum's management) we set to jazz the artsy
party up and we did! 5 Hours non stop tandem included the freshest
novelties and the best of oldies in ambiend, nu-jazz, leftfield,
ethnic and other unlabeled stuff.. Playing anything from K&D and
Thievery Corporation to Orbital and Roni Size we were able to
capture the mood of the party, injecting it with some
Brazilian Spice of Sergio Mendes or sexing it up with
the Neo-Tango of the Gotan Project! Overall it was an incredible and
memorable night for us, a beginning of a new relationship between
one of the world's finest museum and us - world's cackiest bastards! |
